For Amputee golfers and ambulatory golfers that have had a significant injury (ACL, Meniscus, MCL , spinal injury, lower back muscle strain, high ankle issues etc.) - the Athletic Stance Golf Swing was created to reduce the unnecessary

rotation and deforming forces to the lower body created by the traditional golf swing, while improving power and maintaining ball distance.

Golf is one of the most popular sports amongst amputees in the United States. The loss of a limb does not indicate a loss of interest in their favorite activity but, rather may affect their ability to participate in this activity.

The conventional golf stance has been extensively studied for able-bodied golfers; however, it has not been documented for unilateral transtibial amputee golfers (golfers missing a limb on one side of their body). The conventional golf stance can be detrimental to the musculoskeletal system of the golfer (Cole, 2016). Even though these detriments have been studied in intact individuals, it would seem apparent that the stance can be just as detrimental to unilateral transtibial amputees.

Pain, loss of function, as well as self-perception may impact an individual amputee’s ability to participate in golf. By introducing a new golf stance that decreases axial socket reaction moments (knee torque/rotation) we hope to decrease painful and detrimental forces that may cause discomfort to the golfer and improve their self-confidence and ability to play golf.
